Thailand extends from 5°37' N latitude to 20°30' N latitude and between 97°20' and 105°39' E longitude (approximately 1,500 km from north to south and 800 km from east to west).

Habitat cover in Thailand is of various types: deciduous, evergreen, hill evergreen, pines, swamp, and mangrove forest; limestone outcrops, bamboo, tree plantations, farmland, freshwater wetlands, seacoasts, and islands. This explains the considerable variety of species and bird families present in the kingdom. The best period is from the first week of October to early May when most of the winter visitors, passage migrants and breeding visitors are present. However, birding in Thailand is good all year round; the rainy season is the best time for resident birds and many birds start nesting.
